With 2009 done and dusted, we're ready to look forward to all the events; concerts, circuses, exhibitions and even a panto. This is a small collection of the many events going on in Liverpool this year - all of them worthy of featuring in your calendar.
1. The X Factor - Live!
The X-Factor LIVE Tour returns to Echo Arena Liverpool with an extra date because of it's high demand. Performing will include twins John and Edward as well as winner Joe McElderry. 15-16 February at the Echo Arena.
2. Chinese New Year in Liverpool
Liverpool is home to one of the oldest Chinese communities in Europe. Chinese New Year is celebrated each year in the streets around the Chinese Arch on Nelson Street. 2010 is the Year of the Tiger. 21 February.
3. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga, the chart-topping artist is visiting Liverpool with her brand new tour 'The Monster Ball'. Performing all her songs from her revamped album, The Fame Monster, this show is bound to be a shocker. 24 February at the Echo Arena.
4. The Grand National
The Grand National at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, the highlight of a three-day meeting, first took place in 1839 and is widely regarded as the greatest steeplechase in the world. A great event to attend and a brilliant excuse to dress up! 8 - 10 April.
5. Liverpool Sound City
This annual event features a host of gigs, from a mixture of established names and up-and-coming acts, at venues around the city. Liverpool comes to life with parties and music everywhere. May 2010 - at a variety of venues across Liverpool.
6. Cirque Du Soleil - Saltimbanco
Following the critically acclaimed UK tour of Quidam, Cirque Du Soleil, is to return with a tour of its vibrant signature production Saltimbanco. The acrobatics and sheer strength of the artists is definitely a sight to behold. 26-30 May at the Echo Arena.
7. Rihanna
Following her massive success from her 2007 album 'Good Girl Gone Bad,' this tour will showcase the music superstar and Grammy Award winner Rihanna's talent. Performing a mix of songs including singles from her brand new album 'Rated R'. 8 May at the Echo Arena.
8. Picasso: Peace and Freedom
This major exhibition will bring together over 150 works by Picasso from across the world. It is said to reveal a new insight into Picasso’s life as a political activist and campaigner for peace. 21 May to 30 August 2010 at Tate Liverpool.
9. Mathew Street Music Festival
Liverpool's Mathew Street Music Festival is one of Europe's biggest free music events. Rock and pop bands perform on six outdoor stages dotted around the city centre bring the streets to life. August 2010.
10. Aladdin
From the producers of this year's pantomime Peter Pan, First Family Entertainment present Aladdin. Bringing together our favourite characters - Aladdin and the beautiful Princess, Wishee Washee, the Emperor, Chinese Policemen and Widow Twankey. Starting December 10th at the Empire.
