Now that March is upon us it is officially time to start thinking about our spring wardrobes. Wave goodbye to the winter woollies and dull ensembles of those cold few months and welcome a bright and fresh new look.

JMU journalism have once again visited high street Mecca Topshop to discuss what trends matter now and with the launch of three new collections this spring there is a style to suit everyone.

Downtown

The first collection is inspired by a downtown cool aesthetic, luxury yet laid back. The pieces are very reminiscent of the 90s, a time when Calvin Klein and DKNY first made their mark on fashion and took sportswear to a new level. With sporty detailing and luxurious fabrics, the collection is undeniably urban and trendy. Key styles within the downtown collection include baggy tees with bold, modern prints; updated harems, and edgy blazers.

Liverpool Topshop style advisors recommend these beautiful harem pants with their gold button detail (£35) and a tailored blazer to epitomise the look. To dress down the look, studded leggings are a great buy. Match them with one of the bold print t-shirts for an effortless parred down look.

Meadow

For a totally different look, there is the meadow collection. Effortlessly pretty and feminine, this trend will make you feel like the quintessential English rose. Although the light, airy looks are typical of a spring collection, there is an underlying influence from uber trendy 70s vintage. Expect chiffon, florals, Ossie Clark inspired dresses and blouses and vintage style underwear.  Key looks include very pretty vintage style dresses, the floaty bolero (£45) and the casual floral dress (£32) teamed with a classic tan leather belt (£15)

Saloon

Lastly, saddle up and head into the Wild West with the saloon collection. All the glamour of the saloon is encompassed in this collection, think ruffles, can-can, beaten up leather and classic vintage denim.

Fringing is key; a fringed shirt is perfect tucked into a waisted skirt and looks so retro it’s amazing! Also, the horse print top (£22) paired with one of the many checked shirts on offer would look great layered over black denim jeggings.  Although this look can be quite masculine, feminine dresses with an edge are great additions to any wardrobe and the nude wrinkled dress is fabulous. (£55)
